Jesus doesn’t sugarcoat it—following him is hard. It means surrender, sacrifice, and even pain. He tells us to carefully count the cost of discipleship ahead of time. But counting the cost of what we might lose must be weighed against what we gain. When we see the eternal riches found in Christ, even painful sacrifices become clear choices. Whatever we lose in following Jesus is nothing compared to what we gain in him.
